Saturday, April 6, 2008
As some of you may have noticed, the Hat hasn't been playing a lot of shows these past months. The Hat is not dead and probably never will be. We just don't gig much now. You'll always see us re-surface in the summer. In the mean time, use our latest release to satisfy your craving for this never-ending, frantic and hectic, explosive and often injurous (to anyone that stands too close to Jack's dancing feet) rock and roll experience called Ruth's Hat. The Nostalgic for Right Now + The Sun Sessions double disc is the must have Hat record that truly represents the band in a live setting; steadfast to not only the rock, but also the roll, with an intense energy that is not matched on any of our previous releases. This is not to say that all Ruth's Hat releases don't contain an earful of fine selections. We just want to make sure that you've heard the new stuff! If you like emo-core, thrash metal, skate punk, or just jammin' endless boring riffs with a bunch of stinky fucking hippies, you'll love it so much. We've really found our sound. You'll want it inside your CD player all day and all night. There was a short period of time where the link to this record from our website here (on the right hand side of this page) went to a page at interpunk.com that inidcated that our CD was no longer available. This link has been fixed! So, while you anxiously await our next show, which will happen eventually, for the love of Buddy Holly, get a copy of this record now if you don't already have one.

Monday, November 19 - Call The Office next Thursday, Nov 29!
It's been a while since we posted any news here at ruthshat.com. Really, that's because there isn't much. All you need to know is that we do what we do and we do it for real. Considering how often we do it, you should probably make your way to Call The Office next Thursday, November 29th to see the Hat bring the noise with The Roman Line and The Mad Cowboys.

Saturday, October 13 - Thanks...we'll see ya in a couple more months
Big thanks to those of you that came to check us out at the Salt Lounge. We know you still get it, and we love you for it. So we're moving into the 'every other month' schedule for shows. You can catch us again in London on Thursday, November 29th at Call The Office with the one...the only...ROMAN LINE. Mike will be leaving Canada after that show for an indefinite period of time. If you wanna chill with Mike in 2007, you better be at CTO on Nov 29th.

Thursday, September 13 - The Hat with the Ataris
We'll be playing with the Ataris on Wednesday, October 3rd at the Salt Lounge in London. This is an early show and we're on first so don't be late.

Saturday, September 1 - See you at the drive-in tomorrow?
We return to the Starlite drive-in theatre tomorrow evening. We should start around 7:45PM to precede the 3 movies. This is always a fun show. Hope to see you there. We're also in London at the Salt next Friday and in Hamilton on Fri, Oct 12. See the shows page for more details.

Sunday, August 26 - More shows
So apparently we're a band again...playing shows and everything. We have a couple more coming up. We'll be at the drive-in in Grand Bend on Labour Day Sunday and at the Salt Lounge in London on Friday, Sept 7. See the Shows page for more details.

Thrusday, August 23, 2007 - Acoustic set at Labatt Park tomorrow
Mike and PJ will be playing a few songs during half time at the football game on Saturday...Labatt Park, London, ON, Wharncliffe and Riverside. Come check it out and support the Silverbacks. They're very good this year.

Thursday, June 21, 2007 - Yet another show!
The legendary status of this band has required us to book yet another epic live appearance. This '1 show per month' schedule is going to kill us. Regardless, we'll see you in Grand Bend on August 2. Check the shows page for details.

Thursday, June 14, 2007 - We're back online + come see us tomorrow in London
This is our site. We'll be adding content over the next month or so to get it 100% completed, and then she'll be here to stay. If that ain't good enough for ya, you can come tell us about it tomorrow at TD/Waterhouse Stadium / UWO in London, ON. We go on at 9:45 sharp.

Catch Mike Hat unplugged tomorrow night at Call The Office.
Monday, October 1 - Release party thanks + future plans.
Another month gone by.  Big thanks to everyone who came out to our CD release party on Friday night.  It was a HUGE success.  For the next few months, we're going to work hard with Fast Music to make sure that the new double album is available for sale to our fans worldwide.  We're also going to work some of the new tracks to radio in both Canadian and US markets.  More news on that to come.  For those of you that are anxious to get your hands on our new offering, it should be available at Interpunk very soon...sooner than it will be available in your local stores.  Keep checking back for updates.

Saturday, September 16 - Shows where you can get the new album cheap!
- Friday, November 10th - Fanshawe College
- Saturday, November 25th - Toronto
More shows coming soon!

Saturday, September 9 - CD release party on Sept 29.
The CDs have arrived and they look freaking great.  They look almost as great as they sound.  You'll have to grab a copy to find out for yourself.  Stores should have them by October.  If you're in London or the surrounding area, we've scheduled a CD release party for Friday, September 29 @ The Salt Lounge w/ The Roman Line, The Deportees, and Crush Luther.  At that show, you'll be able to grab a copy of the new double album for a discounted 'one night only - CD release party price'.
Thursday, August 31 - Drive-In show cancelled.  CD is done!
We have some bad news and some good news.  Bad news first.  Our annual rock n' roll drive-in show at the Starlite Drive-In outside of Grand Bend has been CANCELLED.  You can still show up at the drive-in this Sunday, Sept 3rd to see a few movies, but Ruth's Hat will not be playing.  Due to unforeseen circumstances, the venue had no choice but to put it off until next year.  Now the good news.  The new album is done, in boxes, and ready to ship.  This means we will have a copies for everyone at our CD release party that we are planning for October (more news on that to come).  Distribution in Canada right now is a bit up in the air.  It should be available in stores by October, but we're not 100% sure through which distribution network this will occur.  Fast Music is in the process of making some changes north of the border.  We'll keep you updated.  Down in the states, you should be able to find it at pretty much any record store by October.

Thursday, August 24 - London this Friday, August 25 + New CD news + Memphis re-cap!
Hey London...come see us at Call The Office this Friday, August 25!  We'll be rockin' the house with the one and only Angry Agency.  In other news, there was a bit of a miscalculation with the arrival time of the new double CD (Nostalgic for Right Now + The Sun Sessions).  It will not be available for the show tomorrow night, but we will have copies in early September.  This is a guarantee.  In other news, we just finished up another session at the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, TN.  We went down this year with a couple other bands so we only laid down one track.  You'll hear it soon at Myspace.  With less work to do in the studio, we ended up having a killer time in Memphis.  If you haven't been to this city, we highly recommend a visit.  From the crazy fun show we had on Saturday (thanks Buccaneer and friends) to The Rendezvous' incredible BBQ, everything was off the hook.
Thursday, August 17 - Grand Bend tonight, Memphis here we come!
If you're near Grand Bend tonight, get over to Gables (right on the corner of Main St. and HW 21).  We're playing a FREE show.  We'll be on just before 11PM.  After that, we're heading down to Memphis, TN to pay another visit to the legendary Sun Studio.  This time, it's more of a vacation than a recording session, but we'll still be laying down another song and playing a show while we're there.
Monday, August 14 - Grand Bend this Thursday.
For those of you that aren't too far from the wonderful beach town of Grand Bend, Ontario, you can catch a FREE Ruth's Hat show this Thursday, August 17 at Gables.
Wednesday, August 9 - Wakestock this weekend + New double album.
Toronto fans can catch us on Toronto Island this Saturday, August 12 for Wakestock 2006.  We'll be playing at NOON sharp on the Skatepark Indy Stage.  The Saturday Wakestock bill is stacked with some great bands this year.  Check it out at wakestock.com.  We'll also be doing a free show later that evening in Newmarket at George Richardson Park.  As we mentioned last week, the new album will include 2 CDs.  The first CD, our new full length record, has been titled Nostalgic for Right Now.  The second CD contains all of the tracks from our session at Sun Studio in Memphis, TN and has been simply titled The Sun Sessions.  Along with several songs from Nostalgic for Right Now, you can see the cover for the new album featured on our myspace page.  Go there now.

Wednesday, August 2 - Detroit this Saturday + new album news.
We'll be playing the Belmont in Hamtramck (Detroit area) this Saturday, August 5.  We haven't been back to Detroit in a while.  We hope all of our fans in the 313 and beyond can make it out.  The new album is officially in the manufacturing process.  It will be available at shows within 3 weeks, and available in stores for official release by the end of September.  The new album will include a bonus CD; 6 songs from our session at Sun Studio.   The 2CD set will be sold at a one CD price!  Stay tuned for more info.

Thursday, July 13 - SCENE Fest re-cap, new album, Wakestock.
Big thanks to everyone who popped in for our set at SCENE Festival this past Sunday.  We had a great time.  It was nice to be back in St. Catharines, especially for an event like SCENE.  Unlike most music festivals, where bands are scattered around a city miles apart from each other, everything at SCENE went down within 3 city blocks.  It was killer.  For the rest of July, we're gonna spend some time getting the new album ready for release.  We should be posting a title and possibly the cover art here on the news page by next week.  In August, we'll be back for some more shows including Detroit on the 5th and Wakestock in Toronto on the 12th with Sloan and Trews!

Monday, June 26 - Grand Bend this weekend, Goderich cancelled, album news, etc.
Catch us on Grand Bend Beach this weekend opening the annual Grand Bend Fireworks festival.  We'll be doing two FREE shows on Saturday, July 1st with Staylefish, one in the afternoon starting around 2PM, and another one in the evening starting just after 8PM.  These sets will be weather permitting.  If the wind and rain is cranking on Saturday, we'll be back to rock the beach on Sunday.  The long range forecast looks good though, so Saturday should be the day.

Our show in Goderich for this Friday has been cancelled.  Sorry about that.

After much thought, we have decided to release our Sun Session recordings together with the recordings for our new album.  The idea of releasing two different CDs was discussed, but we thought that our fans had waited long enough to deserve two albums packaged as one.  To sweeten the deal even more, we're going to sell the double album for a single album price.  More news on this to come!
Wednesday, June 14 - Album.
It looks like the release of the new album is finally in the works!  It will be released on Fast Music.  More details coming soon.
Wednesday, June 7 - The Hat to play S.C.E.N.E. + TORONTO this Friday!
We've been invited to play the 2006 S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival in St. Catharines, ON.  This is on Sunday, July 9, which means our Chatham date will have to be cancelled.  Sorry about that Chatham.  We'll get down your way in the fall once the new album is released.  TORONTO FANS...we'll see you this Friday, June 9 at Club Neutral for NXNE.  We are scheduled to go on @ 9PM sharp and these festivals rarely run behind schedule.
Wednesday, May 24 - Thanks Grand Bend + London here we come.
Last weekend reminded us of the degree to which Victoria Day weekend in Grand Bend rocks harder than Stewie's I-Pod commercial.  Holy shit Grand Bend.  Nice work.  Big thanks go out to everyone who attended our shows on Saturday and Sunday.  We'll be back at the Salt Lounge in London, ON on Friday, June 2 to do it all again.
Thursday, May 18  - May 2-4 Hat style in Grand Bend.
We're rockin' Grand Bend two nights this weekend - Saturday and Sunday.  Is there a better place to be on 2-4?
Friday, May 12  - TORONTO TOMORROW + A Clean Sweep...2 Music Awards in 2006.
If you're in the Toronto area, don't miss us at the Cadillac Lounge this Saturday, May 13.  .  In other news, once again, we need to thank all of our fans in London and abroad for voting Ruth's Hat!  It turns out that our 2006 Jack Richardson Music Award for Best Rock Band is not our only award this year.  We also took home a 2006 London Music Award for Best Punk Band this past Sunday.  YOU made this happen.  Thank you for casting your votes not only for Ruth's Hat, but also for rock n' roll music!  We'd like to believe that we're producing some fresh music in a market that has become way too homogenized, and we hope that these awards are a reflection of these efforts.  We'll be celebrating with a serious rock show at The Salt Lounge in London on Friday, June 2.
Monday, May 1  - London's #1 Rock Band!
Last night we were presented with a Jack Richardson Music Award for Best Rock Band!  Big thanks to everyone that voted.
Thursday, April 27 - SUNDAY AT THE PHOENIX IS NOT ALL AGES.
Hello Hat Heads.  Unfortunately, we made a mistake concerning the details for our show this Sunday, April 30th @ The Phoenix in London, Ontario.  This show is NOT all ages.  It is 19+.  Sorry about the mix-up and sorry to all of our fans that are under 19.  We will have an all ages show this summer for sure.  All other details remain the same.  See the shows page for times, location, etc.

Sunday, March 5 - Thanks Toronto + Airplay.
Big thanks to everyone who came out to our CMW showcase in Toronto last night!  We did have to cut our set a bit short.  If you feel you didn't get enough Hat, request us on the radio in Toronto or London!

Toronto:
Request us here on 102.1 The Edge:  http://www.edge102.com/station/request_song.cfm.  Please request the song Show Me.

London:
Send a quick email to Andrea at andrea@fm96.com and tell her to play more Ruth's Hat!  She's been playing Cowboy James for a few while now.  That'd be a good one to request.  An easier way to hear the hat would be to put your request in via FM96's web site by going here: http://www.fm96.com/station/requests.cfm.  You can also call FM96...call (519) 438-3696 and request Cowboy James.

Don't forget Toronto...we're at The Cameron House this coming Saturday, March 4th for Canadian Music Week.  We play at 1AM sharp.  Be there Toronto.  We'll be pulling out all the stops at this one.   A CMW pass will get you in.  Without a pass, you will still be able to get in.  You'll just have pay a cover.  We don't know how much this is exactly but we know it's less than $10.

Another new recording!
Because the record is taking so long to get out, we want to keep giving you guys a little taste of the serious rock n' roll that you'll soon be able to own on CD.  We've posted a new recording of Sure as Hell Ain't Thinkin'.  Get over to http://www.battleofthebands.com/bb10/bands/ruthshat/ and give it a listen.  This song is available for online play only.  You won't be able to download it.

One of our Myspace friends recently let us know that we did not have our Myspace page set up to allow other users to add a Ruth's Hat song to their profile.  We have fixed that problem.  So, for any of you that would like to rock some Hat on your Myspace page, simply login to your Myspace account, go to http://myspace.com/ruthshat, and click on 'Add' under that song that you'd like to have in your profile.  In other news, we have a couple shows with Staylefish coming up next weekend - Feb 17 in London and Feb 18 in Strathroy.  The Strathroy show is FREE!  See you there.
